Grammarly offers a remote-first hybrid working model. Team members can work primarily remotely. Teams will meet in person every quarter in one of Grammarly’s hubs, currently in San Francisco, Vancouver, New York, and Kyiv. To ensure that teams are able to overlap in their working hours and to meet face-to-face when needed, all team members need to live within three time zones of their direct team.

Grammarly team members in this role must be based in Canada or the United States.

The opportunity

Grammarly empowers people to thrive and connect, whenever and wherever they communicate. Every day, 30 million people and 30,000 teams around the world use our AI-powered writing assistant. All of this begins with our team collaborating in a values-driven and learning-oriented environment.

To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for a Software Engineer, Front-End to join our Growth team. This employee will contribute to the Growth Engineering team’s efforts to drive acquisition and retention growth for our core consumer product offering. They will build new features and flows to help improve our customers’ journeys through our product. This work will extend across the Grammarly website and such product offerings as the Grammarly browser extension, the Grammarly Editor, and Grammarly for Windows and Mac. They will work closely with the Product and Design teams to implement frictionless and clear user experiences in these areas. They will also contribute to the ideation process for new Growth features and work with Product and Data Science to develop hypotheses, evaluate experiment results, and help analyze user feedback. They will participate in the team’s on-call rotation and propose and implement technical improvements to the projects owned by the team.

Grammarly’s engineers and researchers have the freedom to innovate and uncover breakthroughs—and, in turn, influence our product roadmap. The complexity of our technical challenges is growing rapidly as we scale our interfaces, algorithms, and infrastructure. Read more about our stack or hear from our team on our technical blog.

Your impact

As a Front-End Engineer focusing on Growth, you will drive significant impact by working on business-critical areas. User acquisition and retention are critical pillars of Grammarly’s goals and growth strategy. You will work with our product managers to brainstorm and develop hypotheses to drive user acquisition and improve free and premium user retention. These hypotheses will be validated through user testing and A/B testing to allow us to double down on what works and discard what doesn’t.

  • Within your first 30 days, you will work with team members to develop a complete understanding of Grammarly’s web architecture & technologies (funnel, CMS, blog). You will get familiarized with the Growth team’s stakeholders on Product and Marketing and their goals as well as ship your first feature or experiment to production. You will also review changes from other engineers and develop an understanding of the deployment/testing/release process.
  • Within your first three months, you will develop an understanding of external codebases that the Growth team contributes to. You will ship an experiment and work with Product and Data Science to better understand the experiment results. You will also develop a deep understanding of past experiments within your operational domain area and develop proficiency with Grammarly’s data analytics tools to do a deeper analysis of experimental features.
  • Within the first six months, you will form an opinion on the technical challenges and areas for improvement in our codebase, develop ownership over a track of work within our Growth charter or a technical project, and contribute to brainstorming and ideation of new growth tracks.

We’re looking for someone who

  • Embodies our EAGER values—is ethical, adaptable, gritty, empathetic, and remarkable.
  • Is able to collaborate in person 2–4 weeks per quarter, traveling if necessary to the hub where the team is based.
  • Has the ability to analytically figure out a path of action based on a given set of requirements and constraints.
  • Has strong foundational knowledge of web technologies (HTML, CSS, JS).
  • Has expertise in modern front-end frameworks (React experience preferred).
  • Has well-developed product intuition and strong user empathy.
  • Has strong technical acumen and the ability to tackle ambiguous problems.
